The Effect of Urine Volume on Urea Excretion.

چکیده

In recent papers Bing (1) and Williams (2) have proposed formulae which these authors believe to be more accurate than the original "standard" and "maximum" clearance equations of M6ller, McIntosh, and Van Slyke (3, 4), in expressing the effects of urine volume flow on the urea clearance in human subjects. Both Bing and Williams base their formulae on the data of M6ller et al (3). The essential test of accuracy of such a formula is the consistency with which it permits one to calculate, from clearances shown by a subject with widely varying urine flows, the clearance that he would show with a given constant urine flow. Neither Williams nor Bing has applied such a test. In the present paper it is applied to compare their formulae with the original equations of Miller et al, with data from both normal and nephritic subjects. The theoretically derived equation of Dole (5), which was apparently overlooked by both Williams and Bing, is also included in the comparison, and tentative conclusions are drawn concerning permeability changes in the renal tubules in chronic nephritis.

Effects of Methanolic Extract of Oxystelma esculentum on Diuresis and Urinary Electrolytes Excretion in Rats

The diuretic activity of methanol extract of Oxystelma esculentum aerial parts (MEOE) was studied in male Wister albino rats at 5h and 24h interval. The animals were divided into 5 groups: control, urea, furosemide and 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg MEOE. The extract was administered intraperitoneally (i.p) pretreated and all animals were saline MEOE. The urine volume (in mL) and electrolytes excretio...

The diuretic effect of Sairei-to is mediated by nitric oxide production in pentobarbital-anesthetized rats.

Sairei-to (TJ-114), a Japanese traditional medicine, has been used clinically for the treatment of various edematous disorders. The inhibitory effect on edema may be dependent on the diuretic response to TJ-114. This study was conducted to clarify the mechanism of diuresis. Pentobarbital-anesthetized rats were infused with a saline solution intravenously (0.4 mL/30 min). Urine was collected thr...

Renal Excretion at Low Urine Volumes and the Mechanism of Oliguria.

In previous papers (1, 2) it was shown that when the urine volume output falls below about 0.35 ml. per minute, the urine becomes " maximally" concentrated with respect to urea. The urea concentration of the urine is constant below this critical volume, and thus the urea clearance (U V/B) varies directly and quantitatively with the urine volume (V). In an effort to analyze the mechanism of rena...

The Rate of Urea Excretion. Iv. the Effect of Changes in the Volume of Urine on the Rate of Urea Excretion

Since the concentration of urea in the blood influences the rate at which urea passes through the urea-secreting cells of the kidney, it seems likely that the concentration of urea in the urine in contact with the internal surfaces of these cells should also have an effect. A high concentration would tend to delay, and a low concentration to facilitate the discharge of urea from the cells, at l...

Evaluation of the Effect of Atenolol Induced Depression in Cardiac Output on Its Own Excretion through Urine Analysis

The role of Pharmacist in making the therapeutic decisions for safe and effective therapy is increasing all over the world. However, there are many aspects of drugs in making these decisions that are less commonly studied such as the correlation of cardiac output with pharmacokinetics of drugs. The cardiac output, besides the other factors, is also affected by drugs like atenolol. Therefore, th...

Urea Tests of Renal Efficiency. I. by I. M. Rabinowitch

The urea tests of renal efficiency commonly mentioned in the literature include (a) simple estimation of blood urea concentration, (b) determination of urine urea concentration following ingestion of urea, and (c) observations on the relationship between blood and urine urea concentrations. From a comparative study of these three methods, the general conclusion reached in this hospital (1) was ...
